Your dog may want to expand the vistas, understand the culture and enjoy some activities that are not available in many places. So if your dog loves to travel, then you simply have to visit Mendocino County, a few hours north of San Francisco. Horizon Air has added flights from Las Vegas to Santa Rosa, California. You and your dog can take advantage of a nice hour and a half drive north and visit friendly dog wineries. Most wineries have grass and shrubs to explore and sniff at. Some even offer dog treats. The Jughandle State Reserve contains a two-kilometer nature trail called the Ecological Staircase. Starting on the ocean, this trail heads inland through a series of five ancient terraces shaped by waves, glacier and tectonic activity. Each terrace was raised from the sea approximately 100,000 years after the previous one was erected. The lowest terrace is a prairie, followed by a pine forest, then a redwood forest and finally a forest of pigments with trees knee-high for decades. The trail has an amazing variety of trees as the ecologies of the different terraces vary greatly.
